Katy ISD is considering Building a New Football Stadium

Katy ISD is considering Building a New Football Stadium

Currently Katy ISD has one stadium to hold football games, soccer games, marching band competitions, etc. The new Tompkins High School will open in a few weeks adding additional pressure to the over taxed school district infrastructure. Many people have become convinced a new football stadium for Katy ISD is a necessity and not a luxury. A recommendation has been presented to the Katy School Board to place a bond referendum on the coming November 5, 2013 ballot.

Jack Rhodes Stadium is located at 1640 Katyland Dr. Katy Texas 77493. This stadium has a capacity of holding about 9,800 fans and it was built back in 1979.

The proposed new $68 Million stadium will be built adjacent to the existing Rhodes Stadium. The school district owns 58 acres of land. It is estimated that by using this land taxpayers will save up to $40 million which would have been needed to buy land. Traffic engineers are now working on plans to ensure traffic jams will not become a major issue.

The proposed new stadium will have seating capacity of up to 14,000 people and parking spaces for approximately 4,700 cars. Katy ISD if this stadium is built will be considered for second round playoff games during the State Football playoffs.

If the bond issue passes the new stadium could be completed for the 2015 fall school year.
