Seminar for Job Seekers in Katy Texas

Seminar for Job Seekers in Katy Texas

This event is NOT a job fair. I wish it was but it is a job seminar where participants will learn techniques needed to find a job in the current economy. The course will is titled “A job seminar and resume workshop”. The seminar will be given on Thursday September 22, 2011 and will be held at the Katy Branch Library which is located at 5414 Franz Road Katy Texas (Old Katy). The class will begin at noon and last until 4:00 PM. The Texas Workforce Solutions group will teach everyone how to construct a resume.

Per the Texas Workforce Solutions on their web site the purpose of this government entity is as follows: “TWC is the state government agency charged with overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers. For employers, TWC offers recruiting, retention, training and retraining, and outplacement services, as well as valuable information on labor law and labor market statistics. For job seekers, TWC offers career development information, job-search resources, training programs and, as appropriate, Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. While targeted populations receive intensive assistance to overcome barriers to employment, all Texans can benefit from the services offered by TWC and our network of workforce partners.” I copied their description so there would be no interpretation taken by me as to its purpose.

It is required that all attendees must bring a flash drive with them and have an E-mail account.

Katy Branch Library Katy Texas

The Katy Branch Library is part of the Harris County Library system. The original Katy library was built in 1940 and is one of the oldest library buildings in Harris County. The structure was rebuilt and reopened to the public in 2003.

I personally hope that the requirements of bringing a flash drive and having an E-mail address will not exclude a large number of folks who cannot afford either of these items. Katy Library does offer computer and internet classes. I would call 281-391-3509 to ask if you or your family could get public access to both a PC and the internet if you do not have an E-mail account. If you do not have a flash drive I would also ask about where one who cannot afford a flash drive could obtain a drive. The Katy Library does have a web site where one can get additional information.

The possibility is many folks who need jobs will get an opportunity to attend this session and I am optimistic the course will proves useful. I personally have never been associated with Texas Workforce programs and therefore have no idea how successful this class will be.
